People all over Barnet borough are angry at the rising rate of road accidents in the area and at Barnet Council’s refusal to consider fresh road safety measures. A 20 mph speed limit is a cheap and proven way of bringing about a sharp fall in traffic accidents and we are calling on Barnet Council to bring in a 20 mph limit on all residential shopping streets. Download a copy of our 20 mph limit petition and collect signatures from your friends and family. Post completed pages to Andrew Newby, 28 Birley Road, London, N20 0EZ.
Read our special Barnet Green Party report showing just how beneficial the 20 mph speed limit would be in reducing accidents and improving neighbourhood life across the whole of the Barnet area.
Barnet Council’s investment in the arms trade
Barnet Council’s pension fund holds shares worth several million pounds in BAE Systems and other weapons exporters. Barnet Green Party has long campaigned for the fund to switch the investments to more ethical shares and we are gathering a petition to try to persuade the fund’s management committee to sell its shares in arms manufacturers. Download our arms trade petition and collect signatures from your friends and family. Post completed pages to Gardi Vaswani, 33 Christchurch Avenue, N12 0DG.
In recent years average returns on ethical funds have been at least as good as returns on arms manufacturers so the council cannot even claim that they make more money by owning shares in merchants of death.
Barnet Greens believe the 603 bus, a school route from Muswell Hill via East Finchley, Highgate and Hampstead to Swiss Cottage, would be a relatively cheap way of introducing a much-needed service from East Finchley to the Royal Free Hospital and would also be well used by local people to go to Hampstead and Highgate. Download our 603 – the bus for me petition and collect signatures from your friends and family. Post completed pages to Andrew Newby, 28 Birley Road, London, N20 0EZ.
